Sunglo was not started as a business plan—it was started as a calling
In 1987, Ruben and Linda Salazar, facing unemployment and the responsibility of providing for a large family, found themselves in a season of uncertainty. In that difficult moment, an opportunity arose to bring adult day care services to Harlingen. What began as a small step of faith became a ministry of service.
As adult day care participants began needing medical care in their homes, the answer was simple and faithful: go to them. Nurses were sent. Care followed the patient. And the mission of Sunglo Home Health Services was born—to meet people where they are and serve them with dignity, compassion, and love.
From the beginning, Sunglo existed to be a blessing—to individuals, families, caregivers, and the Rio Grande Valley community.

Today
Sunglo has grown into a family of services that reflect the same heart it began with:
-
Sunglo Home Health Harlingen
-
Sunglo Home Health Rio Grande City
-
PAS Program
-
Lindenwood Hospice & Palliative Care
-
Brighten Academy San Benito
-
Brighten Academy Brownsville
-
Brighten Academy HCS
These are not just programs—they are living proof that faith, service, and heart endure, even as the healthcare world changes.

CEO : Kristy Evans
Kristy’s leadership is deeply personal. After losing her mother, Linda Salazar, in 2019—and witnessing firsthand what her family lacked without hospice support—she helped create Lindenwood Hospice & Palliative Care to become the team her family needed but did not have.
Sunglo today is guided by leaders who:
-
Understand grief
-
Respect caregivers
-
Advocate for patients
-
Lead with empathy, faith, and accountability

Sunglo began with a prayer and a promise—and 36 years later, that light still shines.
As Scripture reminds us: Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others.”

That light is carried forward by every nurse, aide, administrator, caregiver, and leader who chooses compassion daily.
Still shining.
Still serving.
Still believing

Founding Values
The values that shaped Sunglo were not written on paper first—they were lived:
-
Faith and obedience – trusting God’s direction even when the path was unclear
-
Compassionate service – caring for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit
-
Humility and stewardship – using the gifts and tools God placed in their hands
-
Community responsibility – serving neighbors, families, and the vulnerable
-
Perseverance through hardship – remaining faithful through economic shifts, regulatory changes, and loss
Linda Salazar’s loyalty, strength of character, and heart for service became the emotional and spiritual foundation of Sunglo. Her legacy continues to shape the organization today.
